What is Group Net Metering?

Group Net Metering (GNM) is a policy mechanism that allows a single renewable energy system, such as a rooftop solar plant, to serve multiple electricity connections held by the same consumer. It is particularly beneficial for institutions, government buildings, commercial establishments, or individuals with multiple properties.

Under GNM, if a consumer owns several electricity connections—whether at the same or different locations— the surplus energy generated by a renewable system at one location can be credited against the energy consumed at other locations.

How Does It Work?

  • A solar plant is installed on the rooftop of one of the consumer's premises.
  • Excess power generated is fed into the grid via net metering.
  • Energy credits are then distributed across other eligible electricity connections owned by the same consumer.
  • This results in a consolidated benefit across all locations.

Key Benefits

  • Maximizes energy utilization across multiple buildings or facilities.
  • Reduces total electricity bills by balancing consumption and generation across meters.
  • Enables efficient investment in a single solar plant for multiple sites.
  • Supports the adoption of renewable energy by simplifying implementation for large consumers.

Group Net Metering is ideal for large property owners and organizations seeking to optimize energy usage, reduce electricity costs, and contribute to a greener future without needing separate solar setups at each location.
