Before You Choose Solar Under PM Surya Ghar Yojana — Please Read This

Yesterday, I came across a post online about the misuse happening under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

And honestly — I wasn’t shocked. Because I’ve been watching this pattern for years.

Whenever the government launches a subsidy, two things happen instantly:

  • People get excited to adopt solar.
  • A crowd of “cheapest installation” vendors appears overnight.

The problem is NOT solar. The problem is the mindset that “lowest price = smart decision.”

What We See Every Day on Rooftops

I’ve personally walked into rooftops where installations were so bad that customers suffered within months. And every story starts with the same line:

“Sir, someone offered us 20–30% cheaper. We thought it was a good deal…”

Here’s what those “deals” often lead to:

  • Broken or cut wiring
  • Panels installed at the wrong tilt angle
  • Terrace waterproofing destroyed
  • Systems shutting down in 3–6 months
  • No monitoring, no service, no responsibility

Solar is NOT a decorative item. Solar is engineering.

When it is done well, it gives you 25 years of peace. When done badly, it becomes a 25-year headache.

Why Cheap Installers Create Big Problems

Let’s be honest — many vendors don’t care about engineering at all.

Their only focus is: “How do I install the cheapest system?”

  • Cheapest panels with low efficiency
  • Thin DC cables that heat up
  • Low-grade MC4 connectors that melt in summer
  • Lightweight structures that vibrate in wind
  • No earthing or poor-quality earthing
  • No monitoring system to detect failures

Customers, on the other hand, simply want their bill to reduce and their system to run reliably. They are not supposed to understand the internal engineering — that is our responsibility.

PM Surya Ghar Scheme Is a Great Initiative — But…

The government launched this scheme with good intentions — to reduce people’s bills and encourage rooftop solar adoption.

But for this scheme to truly help people, three things MUST happen:

  • Consumers must be aware of quality.
  • Installers must be responsible and trained.
  • People must choose long-term value over short-term savings.

Because when a subsidy system gets misused by cheap installers, the customer suffers… and the entire industry’s reputation suffers too.

✔ 1. Strong HDGI Structures — No Rust, No Bending, No Vibrations

A solar structure is the foundation of your plant. If it rusts or bends, your entire system is at risk.

At Renowatt, we use HDGI structures with 80–120 micron coating — the same grade used in long-lasting industrial installations.

These structures stay strong for 20+ years, even in coastal regions and extreme heat.

✔ 2. Proper Technical System Sizing — We Don’t Dump Random Panels

Every rooftop is different. Every family’s consumption is different. A good solar company must first study:

  • Your monthly bill pattern
  • Your sanctioned load
  • Your roof size and shading
  • Future expansion plans (EV, AC, borewell pump, etc.)

We never suggest a system just because it is “cheaper.” We suggest what fits the customer — correctly and safely.

✔ 3. SuryaNet RMS — Your Solar Plant’s 24×7 Automated Watchman

One of the biggest reasons systems fail silently is the absence of proper monitoring.

That’s why we built SuryaNet RMS— a smart, cloud-connected monitoring service that acts like a solar doctor for your system.

  • Detects faults immediately
  • Alerts our team before you even notice the issue
  • Shows generation daily, monthly, yearly
  • Keeps your plant healthy even without WiFi
  • Ensures ZERO downtime

A solar plant without monitoring is like driving a car without a dashboard.

✔ 4. Ask for Technical Specifications — Never Buy Blind Kits

Before finalizing any vendor, ALWAYS ask for a complete specification sheet. A “3kW system” can be good… or it can be junk.

At minimum, your vendor should clearly list:

  • Panel brand, wattage, and efficiency
  • Inverter brand, type, and warranty
  • DC cable thickness (4 sqmm is standard)
  • Earthing type (chemical earthing preferred)
  • Structure material and coating thickness
  • MC4 connector brand
  • ACDB/DCDB with SPD and MCB brands
  • Battery type (LiFePO₄ batteries must come with **10+ years warranty**)
  • Monitoring system details

If a vendor hesitates or becomes vague — that is your red flag. Low-quality kits always hide their specs.

✔ 5. Choose Solar — But Choose Wisely

Solar should make your life easier — not add headaches. You deserve a system that:

  • Runs safely for 25 years
  • Reduces your bill consistently
  • Is built on engineering, not shortcuts
  • Is backed by real monitoring and real service

Where to Buy a Reliable, Ready-to-Install Solar Kit?

We’ve created India’s first Quick Solar Kits — curated, pre-engineered, and pre-verified systems that include only branded components and correct sizing.

You can explore them here: https://www.renowatt.in/shop/quick-solar-kit

These kits follow the exact engineering philosophy we follow in our on-site installations — no compromise anywhere.

Final Thoughts

Solar is a 25-year partnership with the sun. Do it once — but do it right.

Choose solar. But choose wisely — not cheaply.
